GCISD GYMNASTIC TEAMS LAUNCH THE 2001-2002 SEASON...by Jon Holzapfel, GCISD Gymnastics Publicity Chairman Gymnastics
teams from Grapevine High School and Colleyville Heritage High
School opened their season Friday with an excellent performance. Led by Ashley and Stephanie Rogus, the CHHS women’s team
finished in second place of seven teams competing.
Ashley finished second in the combined all-around events
while twin sister Stephanie finished a mere .025 points behind in
garnering a tie for third place.
Christina Bond, Michelle Simon, and Sarah Coplen also
contributed to the team score. CHHS, for the first time ever, began competition in men’s gymnastics with Wes Holzapfel capturing fourth place in the all-around competition. His excellent 9.55 score in the vault was good enough for third place. He also placed third on the high bar.
Grapevine High School finished third in the team competition led by Sarah Ridenour’s fifth place in the all-around score. Her first place score of 9.50 on the balance beam and a second place finish on the floor exercise with a 9.30 score highlighted her performance. Kami Johnson, Kim Norris, and team Captain Christina Siegfried also contributed to the team scoring. Amy Cartwright, who coaches both teams, was proud of both teams’ first effort of the year. Coach Cartwright hopes that the return of some of the injured athletes along with the experience of the first meet will result in an even better performance at the next meet scheduled for January 11th, 2002.
