The new 35' flagpole in Melrose Park

WOODLAND HILLS SUBDIVISION DEDICATES FLAGPOLE

The residents of Woodland Hills Subdivision rallied together this weekend to show their unified spirit as neighbors and Americans. Over 150 residents gathered in Melrose Park to dedicate their newly erected 35' flagpole and to attend a memorial service for both the fallen victims and the heroes in the September 11th tragedy. The flagpole was strategically placed in the park so that anyone driving through Colleyville on Martin Parkway could enjoy the beautiful sight. The granite plaque at the base of the pole reads:

"May we remember the victims, honor the heroes, stop the violence, and lead the world toward justice, compassion, and peace." (Mausert-Mooney 2001)

The ceremony took place Sunday, December 9th at 3:00 p. m. Guests attending were as follows:

  • Mark Forchette, Master of Ceremonies

  • Rev. Jim Chandler: Wm. C. Martin United Methodist Church speaking on courage.

  • Erika Swinburne singing "Amazing Grace"

  • Pack 4 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Troop 28

  • Chase Martin singing "Star Spangled Banner"

  • Donna O'Brien paying tribute to the Colleyville Firefighters and the Colleyville Police Department Strings Plus: Angela Krupp on violin, Julie Snyder on violin, and Camilla Slaggle on cello.

  • Woodland Hills Children's Choir singing "It's a Grand Old Flag"

Woodland Hills will be donating over $1,000 to the relief efforts in New York.

"I would like to offer my sincere appreciation to those families of Woodland Hills who so generously offered their time, encouragement and financial support to the memorial and to this flagpole dedication ceremony."  Addie-Marie Forchette
