NEW PARK BOARD MEMBERS APPOINTED…by Linda Newton

The Colleyville City Council replaced two members of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at Tuesday night’s council meeting. Six applicants, including three incumbents, had applied for four open positions. Bill Mitchell, appointed to the Board in October to complete an unexpired term, was the only member re-appointed. Rich Hendler and Karen Birkes were the other two incumbents to apply. Councilman Richard Newton nominated both for reappointment, but they received no other votes from the council.

James Messina was elected to replace Rich Hendler, current chairman of the Board. Messina is a five year resident, parent of three children, and is active is local sports associations. Meg Davis was elected to replace Roger Nelson, who did not re-apply. Davis is active in the local schools and the Prestwick Park Neighborhood association, and was involved in the River Legacy Park in Arlington prior to moving to Colleyville. Gil Turner was elected to replace Karen Birkes. Turner is a past president of the Highland Meadows Homeowners Association, father of two, and has been active in baseball and soccer organizations.

The Park Board consists of eight members and terms are for two years. The council liaison to the Board is Ginny Tigue.
