BLACK MOLD FOUND AT CITY HALL…..
Inspections performed on May 7, 2001 have confirmed the
presence of stachybotrys (black) mold in the portable building
used by the Building Inspections department at the Colleyville
City Hall. The Provident Group, owner of the portable building,
conducted the inspections after a city employee filed a written
inquiry with the city. The city leases the portable building from
the Provident Group. The concern about the potential presence of
the mold was reported in the April 27 edition of LocalNewsOnly.
In a memo to employees, Kelly Cooper, Human Resources manager
for the city, outlined the results reported to her by Steve
Peterson of the Provident Group. Three locations have been found
to contain the mold: the ceiling in the hallway near the men's
restroom, the carpet at the same location, and an air register,
which contained spores but not visible mold growth. In addition,
the air quality was evaluated and passed inspection, eliminating
the need to possibly evacuate the portable building.
Clean up measures are required to eradicate the mold in the
ceiling and carpet locations, and commercial cleaning of the HVAC
units and associated ductwork are also being scheduled. The
leasing company has been asked to perform the necessary clean up
and repairs during weekend hours in an effort to prevent service
interruptions to city customers.
