One Vote Arp's City Council..Dredd Elliss

Mayor Donna Arp completed a sweep of city council seats when Brad Rice apparently defeated Richard Hendler by one vote for Place 2.  Place 2 was vacated by Councilman Mike Taylor who took on Arp for the mayoral seat.

Was it Palm Beach County over again?  Some supporters complained that long lines at the voting place ended up in a number of voters turning away without voting in frustration.  In addition, it was reported at least one Taylor supporter had not been allowed to vote because of a registration question.

Final vote tallies for Colleyville City Council.

COLLEYVILLE

Mayor

Mike Taylor  1408
Donna Arp  1984

Place 1

Joe Hocutt 1709
Jody Short  1515

Place 2

Rich Hendler 1625
Brad Rice 1626

The election incurred the usual claims of missing political signs and harassment.  The campaign was unusual in the fact that two current Council members, Tigue and Marlin, were publicly campaigning for Rice and Hocutt.

The election ends the current continual public service of Jody Short who has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, including Chairman and for the past two years as a city councilman for Place 1.

The election completes the sweep of council by political allies of Mayor Arp.  Last year voters unseated Nelson Thibodeaux in Place 4 while re-electing Ginny Tigue for Place 5.  The election of Marlin and Feldman changed the majority of the council.  The 2001 election replaces Taylor and Short with Rice and Hocutt completing a clean sweep of all 5 council seats by political allies of the mayor.
