WESTLAKE GETS LAND BACK, OFFICIALS SAY ANTICIPATED COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT IS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAINING "NO PROPERTY TAX" STATUS The last chapter of what has been described as the Westlake "Kangaroo Court" has come to a close. State District Judge Fred Davis awarded a summary judgment to Westlake over 200 acres at State Hwy 170 and US Hwy 377. The property was originally part of the 70% "disannexed" area of the original city by former aldermen. Mayor Scott Bradley had first been removed from office during a bizarre scenario where the aldermen held a quasi-court room type hearing. Later, Mayor Bradley was ruled the rightful mayor of Westlake by the Texas Supreme Court. While Roanoke officials have said they may consider an appeal, Mayor Bradley said that he hoped this puts an end to an ugly time in Westlake political events. A regional shopping mall is expected to be built near the site, providing the city significant future expectations of sales tax revenues. |
