EARLY
VOTING BRISK IN WINE SALES ELECTION
A total
of 359 Southlake voters cast ballots during the first four days of early
voting for the Nov. 6 local option election. Early Voting will continue
in the City Secretary's Office at Southlake Town Hall, according to the
following schedule:
Oct. 26, 29-31 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Oct. 27
10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Nov. 1-2
8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Election
Day voting will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the City Secretary's Office.

HARVEST
FEST SET FOR OCTOBER 27
The
city's annual Harvest Fest will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct.
27, at Bicentennial Park. This free fall festival will include many
family- and children-oriented activities, including games, crafts,

SOUTHLAKE
IDENTIFIES SECOND "CHAMPION TREE"
A
50-foot post oak tree at Nobel Oaks Park has been determined to be the
largest of its type in North Texas, giving Southlake its second
"Champion Tree" specimen. The tree has a 178-inch
circumference and is 51 feet tall with a 55-foot spread on the crown.
City officials are working to install a protective wrought iron fence
and a plaque, similar to those installed earlier this year at an Eve's
Necklace tree that was designated a champion tree. For information, call

COMMUNITY
SERVICES RECEIVES STATE ATHLETICS AWARD
The City
of Southlake has received the Silver Member City Award from the Texas
Amateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F.) for Outstanding 2000-2001 Team
and Individual participant registration. This award is given to cities
that show outstanding participation in T.A.A.F events. Southlake takes
part in basketball, in-line hockey, adult softball, swimming and track.
The city also was announced as co-host of the 2002 T.A.A.F. Regional
Basketball Tournament to be held in March. For information, call

TO GIVE OUT HALLOWEEN CANDY
Wandering
ghosts and goblins should make the Southlake Fire Station one of their
stops Halloween night, as firefighters will be outside giving candy to

PRESENTS ANNUAL BUILDER AWARDS
Southlake
Building Services held a luncheon on Tuesday to recognize outstanding
local companies with its annual Builder Awards. Recipients are: Birk
Hendrix Plumbing, Building Trades of the Year; Zodiac Pools, Pool
Builder of the Year; Toll Brothers, Residential Builder of the Year; and
Buford-Thompson Company, Commercial Builder of the Year. For more

BOULEVARD CONSTRUCTION SLATED
Portions
of East Continental Boulevard, from White Chapel Boulevard to
Peytonville, will be closed between Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. A specific work

RESIDENTS
ENCOURAGED TO PLANT STREET TREES
The City
of Southlake and Keep Southlake Beautiful are kicking off the city's
Street Tree Program, through which residents can purchase trees for
half-price if they are then planted in the right-of-way. A total of 40
residents will be able to participate in the program, buying one of four
varieties of trees -- Lacebark Elm, Cedar Elm, Bur Oak, and Chinese
Pistache. Each is a 2- to 2½-inch caliper tree, and are available
through the Street Trees program for just $95 (the city pays the other
half of the purchase price). The Street Trees then will be planted on
the right-of-way of the property owner by Green Oaks Nursery. For more

APPLICANTS
SOUGHT FOR ART COMMITTEE
Applications
are being accepted through Nov. 2 by the City Secretary's Office for
appointments to the Southlake Public Art Advisory Committee. This
committee was created by the City Council as part of the Public Art
Policy. It will include two Council members, two members of the
artistic community; two citizens at large and one representative of the
Arts Council of NorthEast Tarrant County. For information, call City

NATURE
CENTER COMMITTEE BEING FORMED
The
Southlake Parks and Recreation Board is seeking applicants to serve on
the Nature Center Development Committee, which will be asked to research
and recommend a development plan for a nature center at Bob Jones Park
on the north end of White Chapel Boulevard. Appointees will serve
two-year terms starting in November. For applications, or more

WASTE COLLECTION DAY TO BE NOVEMBER 10
The next
Household Hazardous Waste collection day in Southlake will be 9-11 a.m.
Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Department of Public Safety, 667 N. Carroll.
