SOUTHLAKE
STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR ARBOR DAY POSTER, POETRY EFFORTS
Students at Eubanks
Intermediate School took top local honors in the National Arbor Day 5th
Grade Poster Contest and the Arbor Day 6th Grade Poetry Contest,
sponsored by Keep Southlake Beautiful. The theme for both contests was
"Trees are Terrific...Inside and Out."
Fifth-grader Emily
Giffin's winning poster is entered in the state judging next February
and could, if it wins there, advance to the national judging. Her
teacher at Eubanks is Linda Frost.
Sixth-grader Megan
Krogman won the poetry contest. Three Eubanks students -- Kirsten Green,
Alexis Lucente, and Katherine O'Lear -- received honorable mention. The
teacher of all four students is Maureen Gavin.
The two winners received
a framed copy of their entry at the Oct. 27 Arbor Day Celebration in
Bicentennial Park. Each also received a Redbud tree, the official tree
of Southlake, to be planted at their school. Joe Izganics, president of
the Southwest Division of The Home Depot, presented both winners with a
starter tool kit.
