Brahmas roster changes as season approaches
Fort Worth- The list of new faces on the Fort Worth Brahmas roster grew by two on Monday morning when the club agreed to contract terms with a pair of rookie defensemen, Sheldon Lee and Jon Lounsbury.

Lee and Lounsbury are the tenth and eleventh players, respectively, that the Brahmas have signed to contracts for their upcoming 2005-2006 Central Hockey League season. Of the eleven players signed, only goaltender Larry Sterling played for the team last season.

Lee, 6’3”, 215, is a native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He will come to the Fort Worth on the heels of three seasons (2002-2005) of Junior “A” hockey with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). In his career with the Chiefs, Lee played in 157 regular season games, scoring 6 goals, picking up 36 assists, and earning 448 penalty minutes. Last season, Lee skated in 56 games for Chilliwack, totaling 17 points (1G/16A) and 132 penalty minutes. In addition, he was the Chiefs team captain during the 2004-2005 season and was also honored as Chilliwack’s “Best Defenseman” for 2004-2005.

Jon Lounsbury recently concluded a stellar four-year collegiate hockey career (2001-2005) at the University of Southern Maine (NCAA-Div. III-ECAC East) in Portland, Maine. Last season, in addition to serving as the Huskies team captain, Lounsbury was USM’s second leading scorer, with 7 goals and 23 assists in 27 games played. His 30 points was the most by any defenseman in the ECAC East, and he finished tenth overall in the league scoring race. Lounsbury earned many honors for his play during the 2004-2005 campaign. He was named to the American Hockey Coaches Association CCM All American East second team in addition to being selected for the All ECAC first team. He was also a member of the New England Hockey Writers Association East All Star team and was a finalist for the 2004-2005 Joe Concannon Award (given annually to the best American-born player in Division II and Division III men’s ice hockey).

Lounsbury, a native of Winthrop, Massachusetts, stands 5’10” and weighs 176 pounds. A versatile player, Lounsbury might see some action at forward for the Brahmas this season.

Al Sims, the Brahmas Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, believes that both Lee and Lounsbury have a chance to help the Brahmas this season.

“Sheldon Lee is a big, tough, defensive-minded player who possesses outstanding leadership qualities. Lounsbury is a more offensive minded player who is a great skater with some obvious skills. I’m anxious to see how they can fit in to our team,” stated Sims.

The Brahmas will open their ninth season in franchise history and their fifth in the CHL on October 21, 2005. Season tickets for all 32 of the Brahmas 2005-2006 home games are on sale now. For additional information, please contact the Brahmas team office at (817) 336-4423.
