Quick Actions By PeeWee Football Coaches Save More Than The Game
by John Cheneler

Saturday Oct 18 was a true test for the Bantam Blue PeeWee Football Coaches.   Coaches and fans often believe the worst nightmare for coaches is to lose a game, but Saturday the real test of coach's abilities came to front.  In a
game that appeared well in hand in the third quarter for Colleyville's
Bantam Blue, tragedy reared its ugly head.  After a "routine" play a player
lay agonizing on the ground screaming in pain and not feeling sensations
near his neck and arms.

In a split second the quick thinking Head Coach Brent Parker assessed the
situation, calmed the player and immobilized the boy, Jordan Jones.  Other
coaches, Scovic, Hawkins and Cheneler gathered the remaining players moving
them to the bench for reassurance and guidance.  While Coach Parker attended
to the fallen player a parent who is a physician attended to the medical
care of the boy.  Jordan Jones was taken by ambulance to Baylor Hospital
where a complete examination has thus far shown bruises and soreness.

The coaches rallied the remaining players and the team dedicated the game to
their teammate.  Bantam Blue held off a late charge by Southlake and won
28-24.

While being attended to at the hospital Jordan's concern was that his jersey
needed to be cut off by the emergency physician.  Saturday afternoon a rush
request phone call was placed to Star Sports in Colleyville about the
jersey.  A replacement jersey was ready for Jordan Jones on Monday
afternoon.

Monday Jordan returned to watch his teammates practice and was seen
assisting the coaches prepare the team for Keller.  The team is hopeful of a
speedy recovery by Jordan Jones and has dedicated the remaining season to
him.
